For 2026, the Government of Canada is offering free admission to all Parks Canada national parks, historic sites and marine conservation areas from 19 June to 7 September 2026 inclusive, under the Canada Strong Pass. The same program ran over the previous holidays, 12 December 2025 to 15 January 2026.
What you need to know: it's not a physical pass — nothing to buy, print, download or register, you simply arrive during operating hours and admission is free. It applies to everyone, Canadian residents and international visitors, all ages. It covers park entry and day-use admission, plus a 25% discount on Parks Canada camping during the same window. It does NOT cover parking, shuttles, the Lake Minnewanka cruise, gondolas, guided tours, fishing permits, or the Banff Upper Hot Springs pool. Discovery Pass holders don't need to show their pass during the free window, and any annual pass overlapping a free period is automatically extended.
One honest caveat: this program has been renewed repeatedly (summer 2025, holidays 2025, summer 2026), but there's no guarantee it returns after 7 September 2026, and dates can change. Re-check the official Parks Canada Banff fees page right before you travel.
